Berberine is a natural alkaloid that acts by regulating lipid metabolism, decreasing hepatic synthesis of cholesterol and triglycerides and decreasing intestinal absorption of cholesterol. It also helps to reduce the levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL in the blood. Its effect is reinforced by the joint action with Cilantro and fermented Red Rice Yeast (rich in monacolins <5%) that inhibit endogenous cholesterol synthesis in the liver, as they act on the enzyme that controls the speed of hepatic synthesis of cholesterol and triglycerides. In addition, Cilantro has digestive properties, which helps to mitigate possible gastric discomfort due to berberine. On the other hand, Cilantro is rich in antioxidants and together with Olive (which has a high content of oleuropein (40%), of great antioxidant power), inhibits the oxidation of LDL (“bad cholesterol”) and prevents it from becoming a Cardiovascular risk factor. Vitamin B6 helps to increase HDL (or “good cholesterol”) levels and reduce cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL levels. Folic Acid decreases homocysteine levels, which helps to better vasodilation and lower LDL oxidation.
